Dobříš chateau

Dobříš chateau is very popular with Czechs. It was probably built on the site of a former seat of the estate manager located on a manorial estate first mentioned in a written document in 1606. In 1630, the whole estate fell into the hands of the house of Mansfeld and, probably in the second half of the 17th century, a chateau was built on the site of the seat of the estate manager. From 1745 to 1765 it was rebuilt in the rococo style it still shows today. The chateau was owned by the Mansfeld family until 1942 when it was confiscated by the Nazis, who made it the seat of the Reichsprotektor. After 1945, the house became the property of the state and it served to the Ministry of Culture and the Writers Syndicate as writers' home. In 1998, the chateau was returned to its original owners. The chateau is open to the public all year round and its visitors can choose from three guided tours. Guide books in English, German and Russian are also available. The chateau is surrounded by a beautiful garden (under gradual reconstruction) and a park. The building also houses the Dobříš Town Museum.

Route and transport to the site

Walking:

This site is not suitable for a hike from Slapy, due to its remoteness. The combination of car ride and a walk is ideal.

Cycling (approx. 24 km):

Golf Slapy - Buš - Čím - Chotilsko - Prostřední Lhota - Libčice - Chramiště - Stará Huť - Dobříš. The cycling route is paradoxically longer than the route for cars, but it is much more interesting. From Slapy to Prostřední Lhota follow local roads. In Prostřední Lhota near the granary start following the blue-marked hiking trail direction Stará Huť and Dobříš. The trail, mostly following field paths, will take you through the deep forests of the Dobříš region and the Kocába valley to the Strž pond in Stará Huť. From there, the Dobříš house is just a stone's throw away, you just need to follow the ubiquitous signs. The trip is suitable for experienced cyclists and will take a whole day. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it!

By car (approx. 19 km):

Golf Slapy - Buš - Nový Knín - Mokrovraty - Stará Huť - Dobříš. There is a car park directly in front of the house.
