"Lurdy" (Lourdes) pilgrimage site off Nový Knín

Many of you are certainly familiar with the well-known pilgrimage site of Lourdes (called "Lurdy" in Czech) in France. But only few know that near Nový Knín there is a small Lourdes as well. It is a mysterious place on the bank of the Kocába creek in the middle of the forests between Knín and Dobříš. The site is not a cave as in the real Lourdes in France; it is just a small crag with the picture of Virgin Mary of Lourdes and a number of other holy statues, pictures, prayers and candles amongst others. The pilgrimage site has a local importance and was established about 100 years ago. The surroundings are very nice and the forests and the Kocába creek will surely charm you (whether you are religious or not). The site is about 3 km from the Nový Knín village square and the route will take you past a beautiful spring.

Route and transport to the site

Walking:

This site is not suitable for a hike from Slapy, due to its remoteness. On the other hand, a combination of transportation by car and a walk (described below) is highly recommendable.

Cycling (approx. 12 km):

Golf Slapy - Buš - Sudovice - Nový Knín. From the Nový Knín square, follow the yellow-marked hiking trail in the direction of Kozí Hory. Ride along the Kocába creek bank through Starý Knín. After you ride through the village, the hiking trail turns and follows an asphalt road. Leave the main road and keep riding on the road leading through the Kocába valley. Ride through a group of cottages and past a spring. The road forks several times; you need to stay as close to the river as possible. After about 3 km, the road will take you to the crag known as "Lurdy". The trip is very pleasant. It is recommended for moderately experienced cyclists.

By car (approx. 12 km):
