Máj viewpoint off Teletín

This is probably one of the most beautiful views of the Vltava valley in the Prague region. The viewpoint, located on a cliff over 200 metres high, offers an amazing view of Vltava meandering now where the famous Saint John Currents once used to eddy. Nowadays, the Povltavská stezka (Vltava trail) leads directly along the river. The cliff with the viewpoint is sometimes also called Mařenka after a girl who, as a legend has it, jumped from it to end her pain of unrequited love. When looking right from the viewpoint, you can see a rock called Žižka's Ford after Jan Žižka, a Hussite leader. When the rock is lit in a certain way, it allegedly resembles Žižka's head. Directly below you, Vltava forms a horseshoe shape. The inner left side of the river is lined by a rock called Bílá skála (White Rock). In the distance, you can see the Třebenice village and, on the left, you can easily see the Slapy reservoir. This view of the Vltava region is not to be missed and is definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately, no marked trail leads to the viewpoint (even though there used to be one) and so you might need to search for the viewpoint a bit.

Route and transport to the site

Walking:

This site is not suitable for a hike from Slapy due to its remoteness. The ideal solution is the combination of a car trip and a walk.

Cycling (approx. 17 km):

Slapy Golf Resort - Slapy - Slapy reservoir - Nová Rabyně - Stromeč - direction Neveklov. Leave the trunk road off the Loutí colony and follow the yellow-marked hiking trail to Nedvězí. In Nedvězí leave the hiking trail and go to Vysoký Újezd - Teletín, taking the road, which is not marked for hikers. From Teletín, follow the yellow-marked hiking trail again, now in the direction to Pexův luh. In Teletín, pass the pond and the chapel and follow the moderately ascending dirt road. The yellow hiking trail soon turns left. Do not follow the trail, stay on the road. After about 400 metres, you will come to a crossroads (49°49'34.613"N, 14°27'32.641"E). Take your right, cross the meadow to the forest (you need to pass through a pen – please, keep in mind that you need to close the electrical fence once you have passed!). On the edge of the forest (49°49'37.457"N, 14°27'22.812"E), turn right and take the moderately ascending forest road. On the crossroads on the peak (49°49'48.686"N, 14°27'37.064"E), you can find the remains of the original marking.
