Observation tower on the Pepř hill off Jílové u Prahy

This relatively new observation tower was opened in 2007. Construction of an observation tower on the spot has been planned since the 1920s, but it has only been carried out recently. The tower was built of steel and serves as a telecommunication tower as well. The observation deck is at a height of 18 metres and is freely accessible. There is the Jílovské zlaté doly (Jílové gold mines) nature trail passing around the tower. In the last stage of mining in the district, i.e. from 1958 to 1968, the Pepř area was the most important one. There was 1.2 tonnes of gold mined at that time.

Route and transport to the site

This site is not suitable for a hike from Slapy, due to its remoteness. The combination of car ride and a walk is ideal.

Cycling (approx. 25 km):

Golf Slapy - Slapy - Slapy reservoir - Nová Rabyně - Rabyně - Nedvězí - Vysoký Újezd - Teletín - Krňany - Kamenný Přívoz - Žampach - Pepř. From Kamenný přívoz take the yellow-marked hiking trail in the direction of Žampach. As a bonus, you can visit two gold mines turned into a museum on the way. Then take the road to Studené. After having passed through the village, turn right and after several dozens of metres you will reach the observation tower, which is easily visible from distance. The trip is rather demanding.

By car (approx. 30 km):

Slapy Golf Resort - Slapy - Slapy reservoir - Nová Rabyně - Stromeč - Vysoký Újezd - Teletín - Krňany - Kamenný Přívoz - Jílové u Prahy. I recommend leaving your car at a car park in Jílové and then walking the Jílovské vyhlídky (Jílové vistas) nature trail until after about 2 kilometres you reach the Pepř hill with the observation tower, which is easily visible from the distance. The trip is suitable for everyone.
