Open-air Mining Museum Březové Hory in Příbram

The museum features several exhibitions of the Mining Museum Příbram. It is located on the site of a former mine in the part of the town known as "Březové Hory". The exhibitions are large and extremely interesting. You see, Příbram has its reasons to be proud of its mining history. It was there, specifically in one of the Vojtěch mine adits, that the depth of 1000 metres was reached for the first time in world's history. The museum's premises are large and you can easily spend a day there. You can start the tour with the Ševčiny adit whose shaft tower built in 1879 is listed as a UNESCO technical monument. The premises include an exhibition covering the history of mining in the area starting with prehistory and taking the visitors all the way to the times where the adit was closed. Outside, various pieces of mining machinery are exhibited. You can also learn about the life of miners' families- by exploring an original miner's house from the 17th century.

Or visit the underground parts of the Drkolnov mine with its technical monument of international importance- a large water wheel (its perimeter is 12.4 metres) from 1850, which used to pump water from the mine. And the mine offers another unique experience: a 51-metre long miners' slide to the underground. In the Ševčiny mine, you can also enjoy a 230-metre long ride on a mine train, which will take you in the direction of the Vojtěch mine, where the string of exhibitions continues with a collection devoted to the world first reach of a depth of 1000 metres. In addition to that, you can also explore the historical underground of the mine building. And the nearby machine room includes a unique steam hoisting machine made by Breitfeld & Daněk in 1889.Anna, another former mine, hosts further exhibitions and a unique hoisting machine of its own.

Popular attractions include a ride on a mine train through the 260-metre long Prokop adit, which leads to the entrance to the Prokop pit. Those interested in mineralogy cannot miss the exhibition devoted to this subject. The museum is definitely worth a visit.
