Smetana viewpoint off Třebsín

Another beautiful view of the Vltava canyon. Until 1943, this was one of the places where you could hear the thud of the famous Saint John Currents. The viewpoint is named after the composer Bedřich Smetana, who was certainly familiar with the region when he was composing his tone poem Vltava. When listening to the tone poem, you can surely tell when the river is eddying through the Saint John Currents and when it has reached the calmer parts near Štěchovice. When looking from the viewpoint to the valley, you can see directly opposite you, across the river, the tramp settlement Ztracená naděje (or Ztracenka) (Lost Hope). It was established in 1918 as the first tramp settlement. On the left, you can see the Kletecko hill; on the right, there is the nature reserve Kobylí draha. The relatively straight part of the river beginning at Ztracenka and ending before the river enters Štěchovice used to be called "Na buku" (The Beech). The viewpoint is a bit hidden amongst huts, but it can be found easily, just follow your instincts.

Route and transport to the site

Walking:

This site is not suitable for a hike from Slapy due to its remoteness. The ideal solution is the combination of a car trip and a walk.

Cycling (approx. 21 km):

Slapy Golf Resort - Slapy - Slapy reservoir - Nová Rabyně - Stromeč - Vysoký Újezd - Teletín - Třebsín. At the crossing of the trunk road and the road to Třebsín, you will find the yellow-marked hiking trail crossing the road. Take the trail, direction Teletín. After about 100 metres, leave the trail and take your right. Follow the dirt road leading across the field to the huts on the horizon. When you reach the huts, you should be able to find a sign that will safely guide you to the viewpoint. Due to the length of the trip and the elevation, the trip is suitable for experienced cyclists.

By car (approx. 15 km):

Slapy Golf Resort - Slapy - Štěchovice - Hradištko - Závist - Třebsín. You can park your car on the village square in Třebsín and continue to the viewpoint on foot.
